In Benin, the authorities have launched an operation against the sale of rebar that does not meet production standards. Building materials seized have been melted on June 23 in the municipality of Sèmè-Kpodji.
The officials in charge of trade in Benin proceeded during the weekend, to the crushing of the tons of iron seized. The material obtained should be used in the manufacture of other building materials.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the irons seized are non-standard. The producers did not comply with the standards and regulations in this area. “In Benin, there are provisions that regulate the production and marketing of reinforcing bars”unfortunately, some circumvent these standards, regrets Bernard Ehoun, Director of Competition at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
