This Sunday, June 18, 2023, the leader of rebellious France, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, spoke about the next European elections, in 2024. For the figure on the left, it is essential to form a coalition such as the Nupes to win as many seats as possible.
The leader of La France insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, called on the left-wing Nupes coalition on Sunday to present a common list for the 2024 European elections, despite the differences of opinion on European construction. “I adjure my comrades of the Nupes”, he declared on BFM TV.

“We were able to sign (the Nupes program), that is to say 600 joint proposals including almost 10 pages on Europe, so it is not true that we are divergent”, a- he argues. “We are not there each to cook our little soup on our little fire,” added the former candidate for the race for the Elysée.
A skeptical reception
Several left-wing leaders have expressed skepticism about a joint slate in next spring’s European elections. “Very clearly, we will have an environmentalist list for the Europeans”, declared in early June on France 2 Marine Tondelier, national secretary of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts.
During his party’s congress in early April, the national secretary of the French Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, meanwhile affirmed his wish to defend the ideas of his camp “in all elections”. “We will participate in this election and will defend our vision of European construction, breaking with the existing treaties,” he said of the European elections.
