His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Ould Bilal Messaoud supervised, this morning, at the Palace of Conferences in Nouakchott, the launch of the work of the consultative meeting of the scholars of the Sahel countries and Sudan, organized by the African Conference for the Promotion of Peace in Africa, under the auspices of His Excellency the President of the Republic.
The meeting aims to discuss different opinions and ideas related to African peace and security issues.
The conference will discuss, over two days, the current situation in the coastal countries and Sudan, and proposals to address the crises in those countries.
In his opening speech, His Excellency the Prime Minister stated that the organization of this meeting comes at a time when the brotherly state of Sudan is experiencing violent conflict between the people of the same country, and some regions of the Sahel countries are witnessing serious security disturbances.
He affirmed the Islamic Republic of Mauritania’s support for brotherly Sudan in the painful ordeal it is going through, and its support for all African, Arab and international efforts to heal the rift and restore tranquility and peace.
He renewed the call of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazwani, which he launched at the thirty-second Arab Summit held in Jeddah, to exert all possible efforts to stop hostilities permanently and effectively in the Republic of the Sudan and to strive to create appropriate conditions for providing humanitarian support and establishing a comprehensive political solution in the brotherly country. .
His Excellency the Prime Minister praised the cooperation between Mauritania and the UAE in combating extremism and extremism, and supporting stability and development. The African Conference for the Promotion of Peace is one of the fruits of that cooperation, which brings together every year scholars, researchers and activists in the region in order to spread a culture of peace and tolerance in the region.
For his part, the President of the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, His Eminence Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, thanked His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazwani, for the high patronage he gives to the conference, and the Mauritanian government and people for hosting this conference, which includes the scholars of the Sahel and Sudan.
He valued the efforts of goodness and peace offered by the United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of its President, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to the conference and the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum.
He said that this meeting took place in two different contexts, the first of which is a scheduled context that is included in the work of the forum, and an emergency and urgent context, such as the situation in the coastal countries and the state of Sudan.
And he indicated that the scholars of the coast and Sudan will discuss what can be contributed through initiatives and proposals to address the crises of the aforementioned countries, stressing that the conference is a conference of scholars that has nothing to do with politics.
He added that the participants should come up with a call for peace that enables the bloodshed to stop, the public interest to prevail, and to reach a consensual formula for mediation and reconciliation between the adversaries in those countries.
He stressed that their goal and wish is the forum’s contribution to extinguishing the flames of raging wars, stopping the cycle of killing, reconciling the conflicting parties, clarifying the legal opinion and presenting alternatives to war in the current conflicts.
For his part, His Excellency the Minister of Awqaf in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa, thanked the brotherly country of Mauritania and the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum for organizing this conference, which constitutes an opportunity to promote peace and spread its values, as it carries a call for peace and an intention for reconciliation between brothers.
His Excellency the Minister reviewed the Quranic verses and hadiths that urge the need to save oneself, honor and the homeland from destruction, highlighting that fighting exposes countries to destruction and fall.
For his part, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Moussa Faki, said that extremism, extremism and the destruction of places of worship have nothing to do with the true religion, indicating that it is a departure from the tolerant religion, highlighting that the African Union has adopted a series of policies to confront these manifestations on the horizon of 2030, through Expanding the circle of partnership and cooperation.
In turn, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, thanked His Excellency the President of the Republic for the efforts made to develop the Sahel region, explaining that the topics that will be discussed during these meetings are mainly related to approaches that will contribute to the development of productive sectors in the Sahel region.
He stressed that there is an urgent need to mobilize adequate financial resources to support the population in the Sahel region and confront natural disasters, and the importance of paying special attention to security approaches that guarantee peace and peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the continent, noting that the region lives on the impact of climate fluctuations that clearly affect public life in the region. Coastal region.
As for the spokesman for the delegations, Advisor to the President of Burkina Faso, Mr. Aboubakr Dkouri, he expressed his happiness to attend the conference in Mauritania, which contributed to spreading the values of Islam, tolerance and brotherhood in the countries of the region.
He said that the crises the continent is witnessing have had negative effects on the social and economic life of the continent’s inhabitants, pointing out that these crises were fabricated in the name of Islam, stressing the role of Islamic scholars in correcting these misconceptions and rejecting various forms of violence.
He called for cooperation among themselves to solve these problems, and cooperation with others to implement these solutions.
In turn, the Ambassador of Religious Freedoms in the United States of America, HE Mr. Rashad Hussein, expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by everyone in order to solve the problems raised, indicating that the work they are doing to promote peace in the Sahel and Sudan is a very critical work, especially in this period.
He affirmed his support for the efforts of the conference in order to reach a comprehensive and permanent solution to the problems of the continent.
The opening ceremony took place in the presence of Their Excellencies the Ministers of: Justice, Interior and Decentralization, National Rehabilitation, Animal Development, Higher Education, Social Work, the Secretary General of the Government, the Commissioner for Human Rights, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Wali of Western Nouakchott, the President of the Nouakchott Region, the Governor of the Province of Tafraq Zina and the Omda its municipality, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in our country, representatives of international organizations, national and international scholars and imams.
