NFL 2025 Season Preview: Early Predictions & Division-by-Division Breakdown
The dust has settled on the 2024 season, and the NFL landscape is already shifting. After a thorough review of the schedule, some divisions present particularly intriguing challenges to predict. These early projections are just a starting point,of course, but offer a first look at how the 2025 season might unfold. I’ll be back each week wiht game-by-game predictions, just like last year, right here on Abstract Sports.
NFC west: A Division of Intrigue
The NFC West consistently delivers surprises. This year promises to be no different. The Los Angeles Rams appear poised to led, but a resurgent San Francisco 49ers team, fueled by Brock Purdy’s new contract, will undoubtedly challenge.Expect competitive play from both the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.
Here’s how I see the division shaking out:
Rams: 8-9
49ers: 8-9
Cardinals: 8-9
seahawks: 8-9
It’s a tight race, and a single key injury could easily flip the standings.
AFC: A Conference of Contenders
Now,let’s turn our attention to the AFC,a conference brimming with talent and potential.
AFC East: Bills Still reign, But Challenges Loom
The Buffalo Bills have dominated the AFC East for years. However, the competition is heating up. The Miami Dolphins face internal issues, while the new England Patriots are rebuilding under the return of Mike Vrabel as head coach. The New york Jets are pinning their hopes on Justin Fields as their franchise quarterback. Here’s my take:
Bills: 12-5
Dolphins: 8-9
Patriots: 7-10
Jets: 7-10
While the Bills remain the favorites, closing the gap won’t be easy for the other teams.
AFC North: Ravens Aim for Super Bowl glory
The Baltimore Ravens are consistently a strong contender, and Lamar jackson is determined to lead them to a Super Bowl victory. The Cincinnati Bengals, with their receiving corps back in form, will be a significant threat if they can bolster their defense. The Cleveland Browns have a crowded quarterback room with Joe Flacco, Kenny pickett, and two rookies, creating uncertainty. Meanwhile, my Pittsburgh Steelers face a tough schedule and a controversial pursuit of Aaron Rodgers.
My predictions:
Ravens: 11-6
Bengals: 9-8
Steelers: 8-9
Browns: 6-10
This division will be a physical battle week in and week out.
AFC South: A Division on the Rise
The AFC south is arguably the most intriguing division in the NFL this season. The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Travis Hunter, a perhaps game-changing prospect. The Tennessee Titans made a bold move, selecting Cam Newton with the first overall pick – a decision already drawing criticism. the Indianapolis Colts will have a quarterback competition between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson. And the defending champions, the Houston Texans, will look to repeat.
Here’s how I see it:
Texans: 10-7
Colts: 9-8
Jaguars: 8-9
titans: 7-10
Expect plenty of surprises and competitive games in this division.
AFC West: Chiefs Remain the Team to Beat
The Kansas City Chiefs, despite not completing a three-peat in 2024, remain the dominant force in the AFC. The Los Angeles Chargers could present a challenge, and the Denver Broncos are continuing their upward trajectory. The Las Vegas Raiders brought in Geno Smith at quarterback, reuniting him with Pete Carroll, who has come out of retirement to coach.
My projections:
Chiefs: 11-6
Chargers: 11-6
Broncos: 9-8
Raiders: 9-8
The AFC West will be a gauntlet, and every game will be
