Biden Management Policies Linked to Release of Criminal Immigrants into Sanctuary Cities, Sparking Debate & Looming Crackdown
A new report reveals a concerning trend: the Biden administration’s immigration policies have coincided with the release of over 22,000 criminal immigrants into communities across the United States, many of which operate as self-declared “sanctuary cities.” This has ignited a fierce debate over public safety and the role of local jurisdictions in immigration enforcement.
According to Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, the numbers paint a stark picture. Her team uncovered data showing a meaningful number of individuals with criminal records were released rather than turned over to Immigration and Customs enforcement (ICE). Vaughan has filed a Freedom of facts Act request to pinpoint the locations where these individuals were released, given the hundreds of sanctuary cities nationwide.
“it’s bad enough that current policies have allowed so many criminals to enter our country,” Vaughan stated. “But it’s frankly unacceptable that local officials are deliberately releasing them back into communities after they’ve committed crimes, instead of allowing ICE to deport them. This contributes to a rise in migrant-related crime.”
the Sanctuary City Dilemma
The core of the issue lies in the conflict between federal immigration enforcement and the policies of sanctuary cities. These jurisdictions limit their cooperation with ICE, often refusing to honor “detainer” requests – requests to hold individuals suspected of being deportable until ICE can take them into custody.
Here’s a breakdown of the key points:
ICE Preference: ICE prioritizes taking custody of individuals within jails, as it’s a safer and more controlled surroundings than attempting to locate and apprehend them in neighborhoods.
Sanctuary City Rationale: Supporters argue these policies protect immigrant communities from unwarranted federal intervention and build trust between law enforcement and residents.
Recidivism Rates: However, government reports indicate that approximately 25% of released individuals go on to commit further crimes. This raises serious questions about the effectiveness and safety of sanctuary policies.
Victim Impact: As Vaughan’s report emphasizes, each declined detainer represents a potentially preventable crime and a potential victim.
Neither President biden nor Vice President Harris have actively pressured sanctuary cities to comply with ICE requests. This hands-off approach has fueled criticism from those advocating for stricter immigration enforcement.
Trump Promises a Shift in Strategy
The incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump has signaled a dramatic change in approach. Trump has vowed to initiate a large-scale roundup of criminal immigrants on his first day in office,a promise met with widespread approval.
Donald Trump Jr. shared a glimpse of the planned strategy on social media, quoting incoming border czar Tom Homan: “Shock and awe.”[blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”>[blockquoteclass=”twitter-tweet”>
