Pascal zachary, a long-time contributor to IEEE Spectrum who has extensively covered engineering education in Africa. He ⁣introduced ​me to Engineer bainomugisha,⁢ a dedicated computer science professor at Makerere University in Kampala,⁣ Uganda.

Zachary’s ⁣ article, “What It Will Really Take to Electrify All of‌ Africa,” tackles the electricity challenge head-on. ‍It ⁢focuses on enterprising​ initiatives aiming ‌to ⁤bring power ⁢to an additional 300 million people by ⁤2030. This is a monumental undertaking, but one that is absolutely critical for unlocking Africa’s ⁤engineering‍ potential.

Broadband ⁢Bottlenecks in Nigeria

Meanwhile, Lucas Laursen, a contributing editor for IEEE Spectrum, investigated the slow⁣ rollout of broadband in Nigeria in⁢ his article, “In nigeria, Why Isn’t Broadband Everywhere?” Despite boasting eight undersea cables with a combined capacity of 380 terabits, less than half of the population has access to broadband internet.⁢

Seeing his enthusiasm firsthand was incredibly inspiring.He actively engaged with fellow scholarship recipients, absorbed knowledge from ⁣presentations, explored cutting-edge robotics, and connected with the engineers shaping the future. It was like watching a student in⁢ a candy ⁢store, brimming with curiosity and ambition.
