Rudy‘s Evolving Sound: From Intimate EPs to Festival Stages
Bengaluru-based musician Rudy is rapidly gaining recognition for a sound that’s both deeply personal and increasingly expansive. Her journey, marked by consistent collaboration and a dedication to sonic exploration, is taking her from intimate studio sessions to major festival appearances like Ziro Festival of Music and Lollapalooza India.
A Collaborative Foundation
Rudy’s creative partnership with Kalmi has been instrumental in shaping her artistic evolution. They previously worked together on Rudy’s 2021 EP, Broke My Slumber, and have now reached what she describes as a “mature sound” with their latest work, ‘Love & Limerence‘. This collaborative spirit extends beyond their own projects; Rudy also lent her vocals to Hanumankind’s track ‘Cause’ from the Monsoon season mixtape.
The core of their process isn’t about immediate release, but about discovery. They prioritize “making new sounds” without pressure, allowing ideas to develop organically. This approach ultimately fueled Rudy’s desire to share her creations with a wider audience.
The Inspiration Behind “Limerence”
The title of Rudy’s new song, “limerence,” arose from a unique habit of hers. She diligently collects “cool words or phrases” in her Notes app, revisiting them later as potential songwriting prompts. A social media reel sparked her interest in the term, and she felt it perfectly encapsulated a concept she wanted to explore.
A Visually Striking Debut
The accompanying music video for “Limerence” is a compelling visual representation of Rudy’s internal world. Directed by deepika Menon in her directorial debut, with Lendrick Kumar serving as executive producer, the video delves into themes of love, longing, and emotional distance.
This was Rudy’s first large-scale music video production, complete with a dedicated set and crew. She found the experience incredibly enriching, drawing inspiration from the expertise of everyone involved and appreciating the pleasant, collaborative atmosphere.
Embracing the Energy of a Live Band
Previously performing solo, Rudy is now embracing the dynamic possibilities of a full band – specifically, an all-female ensemble. This shift unlocks a new level of freedom and experimentation in her live performances.
She can now expand upon studio versions, adding improvisational elements and injecting more energy into her songs. Such as, she enjoys altering grooves mid-song, creating a more engaging experience for the audience.
What’s Next for Rudy?
As Rudy prepares for her upcoming performance at Lollapalooza India in January 2026, she remains creatively active. While she hints at the possibility of releasing new music before the festival, she emphasizes that music is constantly being created and refined.
You can expect a continuous flow of artistry from Rudy, driven by her passion for sonic exploration and her commitment to sharing her evolving sound with the world.
