Beloved Children’s Book Series “Murder Most Unladylike” Heads to Television
A new television adaptation is in growth, bringing the popular ”Murder Most Unladylike” book series to life for a young audience. StudioCanal and Strong Film & Television have secured the rights to the novels by robin Stevens, envisioning a returnable children’s series that promises mystery, adventure, and compelling characters.
This project builds on a pre-existing partnership between the two companies, solidified by StudioCanal’s investment in James strong’s production company in 2023. Emmy-winning writer Anna McCleery is leading the adaptation, wiht strong himself attached to direct.
A Fresh Take on the Detective Genre
The series is being pitched as a delightful blend of Enola Holmes and Agatha Christie. It centers around Hazel and Daisy, two independent and resourceful teenage detectives navigating the world of 1930s England. They’ll be unraveling intriguing murder mysteries, offering a fresh outlook on the classic detective genre.
McCleery has crafted a six-part series, structured with two 45-minute episodes dedicated to each captivating story. With a wealth of source material – twelve books currently exist – the potential for a long-running, returnable series is important.

This adaptation is being developed within studiocanal’s specialized literary adaptation unit, studiocanal Stories. Furthermore,Unladylike Productions,the newly established banner created by the author,is also involved in the production. StudioCanal will also manage worldwide merchandising and licensing opportunities.
