Austrian Airlines Unveils Expansive 2026 Summer Flight Schedule: New Routes & Increased Capacity
austrian Airlines is gearing up for a notable summer expansion in 2026, adding a wealth of new destinations and bolstering service on popular routes. This move signals a strong commitment to both Mediterranean getaways and emerging travel trends, offering you a wider range of options for your next summer adventure.
New Destinations for 2026
Starting on March 24th, 2026, Austrian Airlines will introduce flights to a diverse selection of exciting locales:
* Spain: Alicante & Bilbao
* Azores (Portugal): Ponta Delgada – often called the “Hawaii of Europe”
* Corsica (France): Bastia
* Greece: Mytilene (Lesbos)
* North Macedonia: Ohrid
* Norway: Bergen
The airline will operate a weekly flight to Ponta Delgada every Tuesday from late June to early September, giving you ample opportunity to experience the azores’ stunning landscapes.
Responding to market Shifts & Expanding Capacity
This expansion isn’t just about adding new destinations. It’s also a strategic response to changes in the airline industry. Austrian Airlines is adding extra flights to already-popular southern European destinations, including:
* Barcelona: 5 additional weekly flights
* Málaga: 3 additional flights
* Canary Islands: 2 additional flights (1 to Funchal, 1 to Tenerife)
These increases are, in part, a reaction to the withdrawal of some low-cost carriers from the market, ensuring you continue to have reliable options for your travel plans. To support this growth, Austrian Airlines will be adding two aircraft from partner airBaltic.
A Focus on Mediterranean & “Coolcation” Travel
Austrian Airlines continues to prioritize Mediterranean travel, offering an impressive network of destinations. you’ll find:
* 21 destinations in Greece
* 11 destinations in Spain
* 14 destinations in Italy
However, the airline is also recognizing the growing popularity of “coolcations” – trips to cooler climates. The new Bergen route complements existing services to Oslo, Tromsø, and the Lofoten Islands, bringing the total number of weekly flights to Norway to 13.
Flights to edinburgh, Scotland, and Sylt, Germany, will also return to the 2026 summer schedule, providing even more options for northern european exploration.
Long-Haul Connections Remain Strong
Beyond Europe, Austrian Airlines maintains a robust long-haul network. You can connect to destinations across Africa, Asia, and North America, including Cairo, Tokyo, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Montreal.
Commitment to Vienna & the Future of Austrian Aviation
According to CEO Annette Mann, this expansion reaffirms Austrian Airlines’ long-standing partnership with Vienna Airport. The airline is actively engaged in discussions with stakeholders to shape the future of Austria’s aviation sector, demonstrating a strong commitment to its home base.
“Austrian Airlines has been a reliable partner at Vienna Airport for decades,” Mann stated.”We are currently in close dialog with all stakeholders…and by expanding our capacity, we reaffirm our strong commitment to our home base.”
