Previously, Han Kang of South Korea received the literary prize in 2023. Before her, Jon Fosse, a Norwegian author known for his expansive, single-sentence novels, was honored in 2022.
María Corina Machado: A Champion of Democracy
Venezuelan opposition leader maría Corina Machado, this year’s Nobel peace Prize recipient, is expected to arrive in Oslo this week to accept her award in person. She was recognized for her courageous fight to establish a democratic transition in Venezuela.
Machado has been in hiding since january, maintaining a low profile for her safety. Despite the risks, she intends to personally receive the prize on Wednesday, according to Kristian Harpviken, director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute.
Harpviken confirmed speaking with Machado the previous evening,ensuring her planned attendance. her presence underscores the importance of her work and the international community’s support for democratic change in Venezuela.
