Small Plane Crash in Galveston Bay: Dramatic Rescue Amidst Fog
A small plane crashed into Galveston Bay, Texas, on Monday afternoon, prompting a remarkable rescue effort. The plane disappeared from radar while flying over Galveston Bay, initiating a swift response from local authorities and concerned citizens. A Captain’s Swift action
Sky Decker, a local yacht captain, played a pivotal role in the aftermath. Living just a mile from the crash site, he immediately launched his boat with his 11-year-old son to offer assistance. Decker encountered police officers who guided him through the dense fog towards the wreckage.
What he found was devastating.”We just saw a crushed ball of aluminum,” Decker recounted. The aircraft was almost entirely submerged, leaving little hope for survivors. Despite the grim scene, Decker bravely dove into the water.
Rescue from the Wreckage
He discovered a critically injured woman, identified as Miriam mancilla, a nurse, trapped beneath debris inside the plane. Dramatic video footage captured Decker working tirelessly to free her.
“I couldn’t believe,” Decker said. “She had maybe 3 inches of air gap to breathe in.” The confined space was also filled with hazardous jet fuel fumes, compounding the danger. mancilla was actively fighting for her life.
Sadly, Decker also recovered the body of a man seated in front of Mancilla. Both individuals were dressed in civilian clothing.He successfully brought Mancilla to safety, providing crucial aid until further assistance arrived.

Decker downplayed his heroic actions, stating, “I just think I was the right guy to be there at the right time.” He expressed comfort in his water skills and a belief that he was divinely positioned to save Mancilla’s life.
