Tunisia Parts ways with Coach Sami Trabelsi Following AFCON Exit
Sami Trabelsi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Tunisia national football team, just one day after a heartbreaking defeat in the 2025 Africa cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16. the tunisian Football Federation announced the decision, framing it as a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
This marks the end of Trabelsi’s second stint leading the Carthage Eagles, a role he assumed last February. He previously resigned from the position in 2013 following a disappointing group stage exit at AFCON.
A Bitter Defeat in Casablanca
Tunisia’s journey at the tournament concluded in a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Mali in Casablanca. Despite playing with a numerical advantage for over 90 minutes – Mali’s Woyo Coulibaly received an early red card – the match ultimately went to extra time.
Tunisia appeared to seize control late in the game, taking an 88th-minute lead. However,a penalty conceded in the sixth minute of added time leveled the score,setting the stage for a tense shootout. Ultimately, Tunisia faltered from the spot, resulting in elimination.
AFCON 2025: A Mixed Campaign
