Brazilian telenovela author, Manoel Carlos, affectionately known as Maneco, passed away this Saturday at the age of 92, as announced by his family on social media. For approximately a year prior to his death, the celebrated writer had been experiencing meaningful health challenges related to ParkinsonS disease.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Manoel Carlos Gonçalves de Almeida, lovingly remembered as Maneco, which occurred today [Saturday] at the age of 92,” shared Júlia Almeida, his daughter and the administrator of his audiovisual legacy.
Local media reports indicate that the author spent his final days hospitalized at Hospital Copa Starr in copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, receiving treatment for Parkinson’s disease, which had impacted both his motor skills and cognitive functions in the preceding year.
