The green and black team extends its winning streak to seven consecutive matches in the derby against Getxo etorki, solidifying their second-place standing.
CV Sestao is maintaining its successful momentum into the new year. The team started the year, and also the second half of the season, with a convincing 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-20, and 25-22) in the local derby against Getxo Etorki at La Benedicta, displaying effective play orchestrated by coach Paki blanco. This remarkable streak now includes seven consecutive wins, boasting a set record of 21-2, and firmly establishes the team in the second position of the group, just one point behind A Coruña, who also secured a win in Oleiros. Furthermore, the gap between them and the third-place team has widened to eleven points following the loss of Los Campos, bringing the initial goal of qualifying for the promotion phase for Superliga 2 closer to reality.
The atmosphere in the stands at La Benedicta was undeniably the highlight of the derby. The Sestao-Getxo match consistently attracts considerable interest, and despite the difference in standings between the two teams, ther was noticeable intensity and a degree of balance, particularly in the third set. The local team dominated the first set, and efficiently controlled the reaction from Getxo in the second. While the visitors found more comfort in the third set, leading 12-14 and tying the score at 20-20, they ultimately succumbed to the home teamS efficacy.
“mission accomplished. We were somewhat apprehensive because the first match after the Christmas break can often be hazardous and elaborate,” stated president César Ruiz after the game. “The atmosphere on the court was quite subdued, and despite a good start, I believe the team’s performance declined. We were affected by this coolness and were unable to receive or attack effectively. A large crowd came out, and while it wasn’t the best match for them to enjoy, we are pleased to have secured the win and taken another step forward.”
