For those looking for deeper insight into the state of the awards race, the 2026 Golden Globes confirmed a few things: Mainly that One Battle After Another remains the frontrunner in the Oscars race, though Hamnet is looking like tough competition. Other predictable events included freshmen series The Pitt and The Studio repeating their Emmys victories, Netflix’s Adolescence once again dominating every category it was nominated in, and KPop Demon Hunters (Consequence’s Pop Culture Event of 2025) winning twice, including the award for Original Song.
Surprises were still possible, though: One Battle After Another star Leonardo DiCaprio lost to Timothée Chalamet for his ball-busting work in Marty Supreme. And Wagner Moura beat out Michael B. Jordan and Joel Edgerton for the Lead Actor in a Drama award, meaning that the Secret Agent star now feels like a lock for an Oscar nomination.

The Secret Agent also beat out the equally acclaimed It Was Just an Accident and Sentimental Value for Non-English Language Movie, though Stellan Skarsgard did win the Best Supporting Actor award for his work in the latter film. Another welcome surprise was Teyana Taylor being recognized in the Supporting Actress category for her One Battle After Another performance: She was the recipient of the first award, and the first person to be bleeped on stage Sunday night.

The inaugural Best Podcast award went to Good Hang with Amy Poehler, while the very normal and real Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award was given to Sinners. Sinners also won the award for Original Score, though its presentation was not featured in the live broadcast.
The ceremony itself went relatively smoothly if overlong, with near-zero references to today’s political landscape, a minimum of technical gaffs, and much of host Nikki Glaser’s material landing. A theme of the night was presenters taking the opportunity to roast members of the audience, nominees, or each other, whether it be Don Cheadle razzing George Clooney for losing or Wanda Sykes thanking God and the trans community on behalf of Best Stand-up Special winner Ricky Gervais.
“What a beautiful night to be an artist,” presenter Julia Roberts said before handing out the penultimate award of the night. From the stage of the Beverly Hilton, the world must look like such a beautiful place.
The Golden Globe Awards, hosted for the second time by Nikki Glaser (Consequence’s Comedian of the Year in 2024), aired Sunday, January 11th at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
