Comprehensive diagnostic testing is now more accessible to residents of Dinant, Belgium, thanks to teh recent opening of a new, independent laboratory and collection center. this facility offers a wide range of services, from routine blood draws to specialized analyses like urine samples, COVID-19 swabs, wound cultures, and stool analyses. Patients even have the convenience of self-depositing samples through a secure drop box, simply requiring a doctor’s request and their health insurance card.
This new center operates independently from the main hospital, yet maintains a collaborative relationship with the regional university hospital (CHU) for sample transport. The CHU has integrated the collection point into its existing transport route, ensuring efficient processing.
The Genesis of a New Healthcare Hub
A team of four nurses, all with emergency room experience from the CHU-three of whom are also trained in emergency medical services-staff the facility. They are well-equipped to handle a variety of procedures, and their independence allows for a streamlined approach to patient care.
The team extends its services with home visits when needed, mirroring similar initiatives in neighboring communities like Onhaye and Hastière. However, until now, a dedicated center within Dinant itself was missing.
