Basketball Transfer Window Adjustments
Previously, the basketball transfer window spanned 30 days, beginning after the second round of the NCAA men’s and women’s tournaments. This has been revised to a 15-day period commencing the day after each sport’s championship game.This marks the fourth adjustment to the transfer window rules as their introduction in the 2022-23 academic year. The initial window lasted 60 days, followed by reductions to 45 days in 2023 and then 30 days in October 2024.
For the upcoming spring season, the basketball transfer window will be open from April 7-21 for men and April 6-20 for women.
Impact of Coaching changes
In addition to the general transfer window adjustments, the NCAA has also addressed scenarios involving head coaching changes. A new rule stipulates that a 15-day transfer window will open five days after a new coach is hired. If a new coach isn’t appointed within 30 days, a separate 15-day window will open on the 31st day, allowing players from that school to consider their options.
