AI-Powered System Wins Health Award for Improving HIV Patient Care
A new artificial intelligence (AI) system, IA-PROM-VIH, has been recognized for its potential to revolutionize healthcare for individuals living with HIV. The system analyzes Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and Patient-Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) to identify unmet clinical needs, emotional barriers, and hidden risks that may not be apparent during routine medical consultations.
Personalized Care and Proactive Health management
IA-PROM-VIH provides personalized recommendations aligned with established clinical guidelines, such as those from Gesida (Spanish AIDS Research Group), the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS), and the International Antiviral Society-USA (IAS). These recommendations include alerts for follow-up analysis, suggestions for healthy lifestyle changes, nutritional support, exercise prescriptions, and therapeutic adjustments based on individual tolerance. The system aims to anticipate preventable events, like hospitalizations, and optimize healthcare resource allocation, fostering a more proactive and patient-centered approach to care.
Strategic Alliances driving Innovation in Healthcare
The award was presented during a healthcare innovation event in Madrid, which also featured a roundtable discussion titled strategic Alliances for Innovation in Health. the discussion was moderated by Helena Díez-Fuentes and included participation from Gilead sciences’ Medical Director, Dr. Marisa Álvarez; Raquel Yotti, Commissioner of the PERTE (Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation) for Vanguard Health; and Izabel Alfany, Director General of EIT Health Spain.
Dr. Álvarez emphasized that healthcare innovation is a shared obligation, noting that Gilead has invested over €35 million in more than 600 HIV-related projects in Spain and Portugal between 2013 and 2023. Gilead Sciences
Alfany highlighted regulatory hurdles that can impede the adoption of new technologies, especially for smaller companies. yotti underscored the role of the PERTE Salud de Vanguardia in catalyzing the transformation of the healthcare system through biomedical innovation and digitalization.PERTE Salud de Vanguardia
Strong scientific backing
The Visionarium project, which encompasses IA-PROM-VIH, benefits from scientific sponsorship from the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC) through Gesida, the Spanish Interdisciplinary Society on AIDS (SEISIDA), the Spanish AIDS Research Network (RIS), and the State Coordinator of HIV and AIDS (CESIDA).This support reinforces the project’s scientific validity and alignment with the priorities of the Spanish national Health System (SNS).
