Conservatives Push for Stricter Deportation Rules for Foreign Nationals in Denmark
The Danish Conservative Party is advocating for considerably stricter deportation policies, proposing that all foreign nationals with unconditional prison sentences should be deported, regardless of their connection to Denmark or the length of their sentence. This stance goes further than the current government’s proposals and reflects a growing push for tighter immigration controls.
Expanding Deportation Thresholds
Party leader Mona Juul stated that even sentences as short as three or six months should trigger deportation,arguing that these lengths of imprisonment indicate serious crimes. Berlingske reported on Juul’s statements, emphasizing her position that personal ties to Denmark and sentence length should not be considered mitigating factors.
The government, led by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, has already proposed deporting foreign nationals with sentences of one year or more. However, Juul believes these measures are insufficient and aims to push for more severe restrictions during upcoming negotiations on a new “deportation reform” expected in the first half of 2026.
