New Covered Walkway Enhances Safety adn Learning at José María morelos y Pavón Secondary School
Toluca, State of Mexico – On January 27, 2026, the Municipal President Ricardo moreno inaugurated a new covered walkway (arcotecho) at the Escuela Secundaria Oficial No. 0022 José maría Morelos y Pavón. This project, the first of several planned for this year, aims to improve the learning surroundings for students in Toluca by providing protection from the elements.
The new structure covers an area of 553.64 square meters and is designed to ensure the safety of over 700 students and faculty. The walkway features a high-resistance structure and includes drainage systems to manage rainfall.

Mayor Moreno emphasized the importance of schools as vital community spaces, stating that they should have adequate and well-maintained facilities. He encouraged parents to participate in the “Yo pongo guapa mi escuela” (I beautify my school) program, an initiative supported by Governor Delfina Gómez, to further enhance school environments. The project was funded thru the State Municipal Strengthening Fund (FEFOM). construction included site planning, foundation work, structural installation, roofing, metal components, and a drainage system. According to Maximino Bueno, Director General of Public Works, the investment reflects a broader strategy to upgrade educational infrastructure across the municipality.

Ana Claudia Vilchis, the school’s morning shift principal, expressed gratitude for the new walkway, calling Mayor Moreno a strong ally of education. She believes the structure will benefit generations of students, parents, and teachers.
