World NTD Day 2026: Addressing Mental Health and Funding Gaps in Neglected Tropical Disease Elimination
Millions worldwide suffering from neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) face not only physical illness but also profound discrimination, social stigma, and untreated mental health conditions. Marking World NTD Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) is urging governments and partners to integrate mental health care into NTD elimination efforts, ensuring extensive support for those affected. WHO’s New Global Guide for Integrated Care
To address this critical gap, the WHO recently launched the essential Care Package (ECP) to address mental health and stigma for people with NTDs. This guide provides health service leaders with evidence-based interventions focused on:
- Promoting good mental health.
- Identifying and assessing mental health conditions in individuals with NTDs.
