Christian Persecution in India Intensifies, Reports Show Record Violence
Persecution watchdog groups are sounding the alarm about the escalating persecution of Christians in India, with recent reports detailing violent attacks and ongoing threats against Christian communities. Data indicates a steady rise in anti-Christian violence over the past five years.
Record Levels of Violence
According to Christian Solidarity International (CSI), 2025 marked the fifth consecutive year of record violence against Christians in India, the world’s most populous nation. This trend shows no signs of abating. The United Christian Forum (UCF) reports a disturbing increase in incidents:
- 2021: 486 incidents
- 2022: 601 incidents
- 2023: 734 incidents
- 2024: 834 incidents
- 2025: 900 incidents
As of January 2026, the UCF reports that 110 Christians are currently imprisoned on charges related to anti-conversion laws.
Recent Attack in Maharashtra
Earlier this month, Hindu nationalists reportedly destroyed the homes of four Christian families in Maharashtra state after they refused to renounce their faith. Christian Solidarity worldwide (CSW) detailed the incident,stating that a mob of approximately 20 individuals confronted the families and two other Christians in a village.
The mob initially demanded the Christians renounce their faith, threatening death if they refused. When the families stood firm, the mob returned and demolished the homes of the four families.
