Atikin responded with a public statement, saying, “Seeing what is happening on social networks, I want to sincerely explain to everyone – who I am, what happened and why discussions are arising now. I want to explain the situation myself, clearly and without interpretation.”
He continued, “I understand that various questions and opinions have arisen, so I feel I must speak out publicly. I am Atikin – a person who creates music and conveys messages through his work that I feel.My eurovision song ‘Deganti Žemelė’ is not just a musical work – it is a story about peace, love and hope. I came to the Eurovision selection honestly,following all the rules,with a song that reflects my current creative direction. I have never supported and do not support Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.”
