DS Automobiles Expands Hybrid Lineup in Chile with New DS 3 Hybrid Model
DS Automobiles is bolstering its presence in the Chilean automotive market with the introduction of the all-new DS 3 Hybrid. The launch marks a significant step for the French automaker in the region, offering a new powertrain option alongside its existing gasoline and fully electric models. This move comes after Stellantis assumed direct representation of the DS brand in Chile, taking over from Citroën Chile, previously led by Fernán Gazmuri. The DS 3 Hybrid arrives in Chile in a single, well-equipped ‘Etoile’ trim level, priced at 35,990,000 Chilean pesos, though Stellantis is currently offering incentives of up to 2.5 million pesos. It joins the DS 3 Puretech 1.2T Opera, priced at 30,490,000 pesos with available bonuses, in the Chilean lineup. Notably, the fully electric DS 3 E-Tense has been discontinued, with the possibility of a more premium hybrid version, potentially with a ‘Pallas’ trim, under consideration for future release. This strategic shift reflects Stellantis’ broader commitment to diversifying its powertrain options in South America, as evidenced by a recent €5.6 billion investment in the region.
The arrival of the DS 3 Hybrid introduces a novel technology to the Chilean market: a 48-volt electrified automatic transmission. This system, developed by Stellantis, bridges the gap between mild and full hybrid technologies. It utilizes a dual-clutch, six-speed automatic gearbox integrated with an electric motor, enhancing acceleration, reducing fuel consumption, and enabling low-speed, short-distance electric propulsion. This technology is part of Stellantis’ “Dare Forward 2030” strategic plan, which aims for carbon net zero objectives.
A New Hybrid Powertrain
The current generation of the DS 3 was initially launched in late 2022, and the hybrid variant now available in Chile represents a significant upgrade in powertrain technology. At the heart of the DS 3 Hybrid is a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder Puretech gasoline engine operating on a Miller cycle, producing 136 horsepower (Hp) and 230 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled with a 48-volt battery and an electric motor that adds 29 Hp and 55 Nm, resulting in a combined output of 145 horsepower. According to Stellantis, the vehicle can reach a top speed of 204 kilometers per hour and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 20 kilometers per liter.
The DS 3 Hybrid’s ‘Etoile’ trim is comprehensively equipped, prioritizing both safety and comfort. Safety features include eight airbags, driver fatigue alert, hill start assist, a 360-degree camera, blind spot detection, and the DS Drive Assist system, which incorporates lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and autonomous emergency braking. These advanced driver-assistance systems aim to enhance safety and convenience for drivers and passengers.
In terms of aesthetics and comfort, the DS 3 Hybrid Etoile boasts tinted windows, electrically adjustable and heated side mirrors, 18-inch alloy wheels, and full LED headlights. Inside, the cabin features keyless access with push-button start, Nappa leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats (with massage function for the driver), a FOCAL Electra sound system with 14 speakers, a wireless charger, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, an electric parking brake, automatic climate control, and the DS Iris System infotainment system with a 10.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. These features aim to provide a premium and technologically advanced driving experience.
Stellantis’ significant investment in South America, totaling €5.6 billion (approximately $6.08 billion USD as of March 13, 2026) from 2025 to 2030, underscores its commitment to the region’s automotive industry. This investment, the largest in the history of the Brazilian and South American automotive sectors, will support the launch of over 40 new products, the development of bio-hybrid technologies, and new business opportunities. The company aims to maintain its leadership position in Brazil and South America, holding a 31.4% market share in Brazil and 23.5% across the region.
