Skullcandy Launches Crusher 1080 ANC Headphones With Bose Audio Technology

Skullcandy has launched the Crusher 1080 ANC headphones, integrating Bose’s proprietary audio technologies to enhance its signature bass-heavy sound. Available now for $279.99, the device features Bose’s QuietControl noise cancellation, head-tracking spatial audio, and an updated acoustic engine, marking a significant effort by the company to improve its reputation for sound quality.

Bose Integration and the Crusher 1080 ANC

The new Crusher 1080 ANC represents a strategic pivot for Skullcandy. While the brand has historically been associated with the board sports community and a reputation for lackluster audio quality, as noted by Wired, the company is now leaning on Bose to refine its engineering. The headphones retain the series’ hallmark feature—a physical dial on the ear cup that allows users to adjust haptic bass—but add a suite of technologies licensed through a partnership that began in 2025.

According to The Verge, the device is the first non-Bose headphones to feature Bose’s TrueSpatial audio technology with head tracking. The integration also includes the WaveForm audio engine, which the company claims keeps audio full, balanced, and smooth. To address previous criticisms regarding audio muddiness when bass is boosted, Skullcandy redesigned the internal drivers using a stiffer diaphragm material, a change intended to maintain clarity in the mids and highs.

Engineering Bass and Noise Cancellation

Combining intense haptic bass with active noise cancellation (ANC) has long been an engineering hurdle for the company. Skullcandy CEO Brian Garofalow explained that the team worked with Bose engineers to decouple the Crusher bass drivers from the rest of the acoustic tuning profile. We’ve been really, really great at community building and nurturing and helping push cultures forward—not the greatest at the engineering part of innovation with products, Garofalow told Wired. So we’ve really been honing our chops in the last few years.

The resulting hardware includes Bose’s six-microphone QuietControl ANC system, which adapts to ambient noise levels. The headphones are also equipped with Bose’s SpeechClarity tech to improve microphone performance during calls. Despite these high-end additions, the Crusher 1080 ANC maintains a competitive battery life, offering up to 60 hours of playback with ANC off, or 50 hours with it enabled. A 10-minute rapid charge provides roughly four hours of listening time.

Market Positioning and Current Deals

The Crusher line remains distinct for its focus on physical vibration, a feature that appeals to users who want a front row of a concert experience. However, consumers currently have several options within the Skullcandy ecosystem and the broader market for bass-focused headphones. While the new 1080 ANC model retails for $279.99, older models are currently seeing significant price drops.

As reported by CNET, retailers are currently discounting the Crusher ANC 2 headphones, a $90 savings from the standard price.

Rtings noted that while previous models like the Crusher Evo were well-suited for EDM and hip-hop, they struggled with poor noise isolation, a gap that the new 1080 ANC model is explicitly designed to fill.

Technical Specifications and Future Outlook

Beyond the Bose-specific features, the Crusher 1080 ANC supports Bluetooth 5.3, LE Audio, and Auracast. The design includes wear detection, which automatically pauses audio when the headphones are removed, and a folding mechanism for portability. The device is available in four colorways: black, candy, primer, and cement.

Whether this partnership can shift the brand’s perception among audiophiles remains to be seen. The company’s recent trajectory, starting with the $130 Method 360 ANC earbuds in 2025, suggests a consistent strategy of leveraging external expertise to bolster its product lineup. As the market for ANC headphones continues to evolve, the ability to balance the physical sensation of haptic bass with sophisticated digital signal processing will likely define the success of this new generation of hardware.
