Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has initiated a push for reinforcements, confirming the club is actively seeking new signings to address a squad depleted by departures and long-term injuries.
Iraola’s Urgent Transfer Demands
As Liverpool prepares for the 2026-27 campaign, Andoni Iraola has made it clear that the current squad requires immediate attention.

Former Liverpool player Stephen Warnock, speaking exclusively to TEAMtalk, argued that Iraola must prioritize three key areas to compete for major honors. Warnock identified the right-back position as the most pressing concern, citing the recurring availability issues of Conor Bradley. While acknowledging Bradley’s talent, Warnock noted, Right-back is also a concern. I absolutely love Conor Bradley, and I think he’s a starter when he’s fit, but the question is whether he can stay fit for the whole season.
Targeting Wingers and Defensive Depth
Beyond the right-back slot, the search for a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah remains a focal point. Warnock suggested that the club should pursue PSG wingers Bradley Barcola or Désiré Doué. He emphasized the need for players who can contribute immediately rather than long-term projects, stating, I don’t think Liverpool are in a position right now where they can buy another Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane-type project and hope they become elite.
Defensive reinforcements are also on the agenda. Iraola faces a roster challenge with several key players sidelined by long-term injuries. During his first press conference, the manager confirmed that Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, and Giovanni Leoni are currently unavailable, creating an immediate gap that the club must address. According to the club’s official transcript, Iraola noted, We have to replace very important players that were making very good numbers and also we have a situation, especially with those three that are going to miss some time, that we also have to find a way to replace.
Establishing a New Identity at Anfield
Iraola is keen to move past the disappointment of last season, which saw the team finish fifth and resulted in the departure of his predecessor, Arne Slot. The new manager aims to foster a stronger connection between the team and the Anfield supporters, a link he feels was strained in recent months. I think football and especially Liverpool is about connecting – connecting with the people, connecting with our supporters,
Iraola said, as reported by the BBC.

The manager’s tactical philosophy centers on an aggressive, vertical style of play. He expressed a desire for a squad that can maintain high intensity, noting that the responsibility for the atmosphere at Anfield lies with the players on the pitch. We have to be a team that works hard – is intense, aggressive, and vertical – so everyone can identify and everyone can feel comfortable supporting this team,
he stated.
Contractual Outlook and Squad Management
Iraola has signed a two-year deal, a length of contract he has favored throughout his coaching career.
As pre-season training begins, the immediate challenge for Iraola is balancing the aggressive, high-workload style he intends to implement with the current limitations of his squad. With senior players departing and ongoing injury concerns, the club’s ability to secure additional signings before the transfer window closes will be the primary metric for their readiness heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
