LP Returns to Colours of Ostrava: A Decade of Music and Personal Growth
American singer-songwriter Laura Pergolizzi, known professionally as LP, returned to the Colours of Ostrava festival this summer, marking a decade since her initial discovery by the Czech audience. The performer, who was born on New York’s Long Island in 1981, has cultivated a career that spans from her debut album Heart-Shaped Scar in 2001 to her status as an international star. Having spent time living in Prague with her partner, model and former Miss Iveta Maurerová, Pergolizzi’s connection to the region has become a significant part of her recent personal and professional life.

A Decade of Connection at Colours of Ostrava
For LP, this year’s appearance at the Colours of Ostrava festival serves as a milestone. The artist has developed a distinct affinity for the festival’s main stage, which she identifies as her favorite. I love that extended stage. It’s exactly because of it that I keep coming back. It’s my favorite stage layout, which allows me to get right among the people, she explained. Her history with the event is storied; she first performed there in 2017, followed by a second appearance five years later.

Her debut performance left a lasting impression, including a specific moment involving a fan in the front row. There was a beautiful girl standing in the first row and she was smiling at me the whole time. Toward the end of the concert, I was drinking a beer and it occurred to me to give her one. The young lady was delighted, when suddenly some crazy fan emerged from somewhere, snatched the beer out of her hand and spilled it all over himself. I thought it was funny and actually sweet. It was just such an authentic moment, she recalled during a press conference.
By her second appearance, she was performing in a nighttime slot, utilizing the stage’s catwalk to embrace the persona of a rock star alongside her guitarist, Andrew Berkeley Martin. It’s my favorite stage modification. I like to get as close to the audience as possible, she noted.
Room 12 and Creative Inspirations
The artist’s eighth studio album, Room 12, is scheduled for a September 2 release. The record was influenced by the year she spent living in Prague with Maurerová. The album’s opening single, Love Is All I Have, produced in collaboration with Mike Del Rio, captures the artist’s process of navigating endings, welcoming new beginnings, and seeking internal peace. When discussing her songwriting process, LP emphasized a disciplined approach to her craft. Songwriting drives me forward. I never interrupt my work until I have the text finished. I try to improve in this craft, to convey the thoughts of my heart more aptly and to bring my romantic nature as close as possible, she said. She draws her inspiration from accumulating life experiences and events that have emotionally impacted her.

LP addressed the pressure of replicating the success of her 2015 breakthrough hit, Lost On You, which topped charts in several European countries. I never know. That’s the thing. I don’t try to write a song that would try to steal from the previous one. I think that with the song Lost On You, it was mainly about timing. A lot of people don’t know how easily a song can miss its moment, she explained. She noted that at the time, she had offered the song to other artists, such as Rihanna, before it became her own signature track.
Festival Atmosphere and Future Appearances
LP’s performance was a central highlight of the festival’s Thursday programming, which also featured artists such as Kateřina Marie Tichá and her band Bandjeez, as well as American rapper Audrey Nuna. While the weather remained favorable for the second day of the festival, the event program continued with international and local talent, including Moby and the Czech group Tata Bojs.

For fans looking to see the artist again, her time in the Czech Republic will extend beyond the summer festival circuit. She is scheduled to perform at Prague’s O2 universum this November. Attendees at the current festival have a unique opportunity to secure tickets for that tour early; organizers have provided a QR code within the festival grounds that grants access to an exclusive pre-sale taking place on July 17 from 11:00 to 20:00.
Artistic Evolution and Public Reception
Reflecting on her relationship with the country, the singer expressed a deep appreciation for the local audience. I know that your country has accepted me. The kindness of the Czechs amazes me. It seems to me that they are not among those who show fake emotions, like Londoners do, for example, she remarked. This personal connection has become a cornerstone of her recent professional life. As she prepares to share Room 12 with the world, the artist remains focused on remaining in the present moment, hoping that the duality of her experiences—both the joy and the disappointment—will continue to resonate with her listeners.
