AstraZeneca Egypt and NEMAG Launch Inaugural Immuno-Oncology Summit in Cairo

AstraZeneca Egypt and the Near East Medical Advisory Group (NEMAG) hosted the inaugural Immuno-Oncology Summit in Cairo on July 2 and 3, bringing together oncology specialists from across the Middle East and North Africa. The event, themed “Key to Life,” focused on advancing regional collaboration in cancer care, specifically targeting developments in immuno-oncology and the integration of multidisciplinary treatment approaches for prevalent cancers.

The summit gathered healthcare professionals from Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco to discuss the evolving landscape of oncology.

Scientific Focus and Multidisciplinary Care

The summit’s agenda centered on the application of immuno-oncology—a type of cancer treatment that helps the immune system fight cancer—across several high-prevalence diagnoses, including lung, liver, biliary tract, bladder, and gastric cancers. A primary theme addressed throughout the sessions was the implementation of Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs).

Beyond traditional clinical practices, the program examined the role of emerging technologies in healthcare. Discussions covered the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools, which are increasingly being utilized to analyze diagnostic imaging and predict treatment responses.

Strategic Commitment to Regional Healthcare

Sherif Nour, Country President of AstraZeneca Egypt, stated that the summit serves as a mechanism to build an integrated healthcare ecosystem. “At AstraZeneca, we believe that transforming cancer care requires an integrated healthcare ecosystem built on scientific innovation, continuous medical education and strong partnerships with the healthcare community,” Nour said. He emphasized that the collaboration aims to create more resilient models of care that improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

The event reflects AstraZeneca’s ongoing oncology strategy in the region, which prioritizes the adoption of evidence-based practices and sustainable partnerships. By facilitating exchanges between eminent professors and clinical experts, the company seeks to accelerate the deployment of the latest therapeutic innovations in local hospitals and clinics. This focus on continuous medical education is intended to ensure that oncologists remain updated on rapidly changing clinical trial data and international treatment standards.
