Paramount Pictures has released the official teaser trailer for director Ti West’s upcoming feature film Ebenezer, offering audiences a supernatural reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Johnny Depp stars in the titular role as Ebenezer Scrooge, marking his first major studio lead since 2018. The project is scheduled to land in theaters on November 13, 2026.
Depp surprised attendees at San Diego Comic-Con by appearing in full costume and makeup to promote the film, stepping out during a Paramount panel and visiting a specially designed pop-up store modeled after Scrooge’s office. The feature is described as a “thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, following one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance”.
Behind the camera, Nathaniel Halpern penned the screenplay, while Emma Watts serves as producer. Principal photography for the adaptation took place earlier this year on location in Dublin and London.
An All-Star Ensemble Cast Brings Dickens’ Ghosts to Life
Alongside Depp’s lead performance, Paramount has assembled a supporting roster. Ian McKellen anchors the cast as Jacob Marley.
The manifestations guiding Scrooge through his temporal journey feature Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Tramell Tillman steps into the role of the Ghost of Christmas Present, while Daisy Ridley portrays the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
Further grounding the tale is Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, alongside Sam Claflin as Fred. The ensemble also features Charlie Murphy and Ellie Bamber as the Fezziwigs, Nicholas Day as a Minister, and Arthur Conti portraying a young Ebenezer.
Ti West Shifts From Horror Roots to Victorian Ghost Story
Director Ti West brings his cinematic sensibilities to the project, tailoring Dickens’ original ghost story framework into what is termed a thrilling supernatural journey.
Filming took place across Dublin and London, leaving post-production teams a runway ahead of the late-autumn 2026 theatrical window.
Release Details and What Comes Next
Paramount Pictures has locked in a theatrical distribution window for Ebenezer, positioning the holiday feature for a November 13, 2026 debut on the big screen. Additional promotional materials are expected to roll out from the studio as the release date approaches.
