Sony Santa Monica has officially confirmed that God of War Laufey will be released on February 16, 2027. The announcement was made during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, marking the next chapter in the mythological series four years after the release of God of War: Ragnarök.
Plot and Setting: The Everywhen
The upcoming title shifts the series’ focus to Laufey, also known as Faye, the warrior and wife of Kratos. According to a post on the PlayStation blog, the story begins after Faye’s funeral, where she awakens unexpectedly in a strange land. She discovers that the plans she previously established to protect Atreus and Kratos are now at risk.
To save her loved ones, Faye must fight through the “Everywhen,” described as the afterlife of the gods. In this realm, ruthless gods from various mythologies compete for power in a land filled with dangerous magic. The game is being developed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
Cast and Character Details
The role of Faye is played by Deborah Ann Woll, who also provided the motion capture for the character in God of War Ragnarök.

Other cast members discussed at the panel included:
- Jack Quaid: Plays Phranque, a character described as a cube.
- Christopher Judge: Returns as Kratos.
- Perlina Lau: Plays Rue.
Future of the Franchise and Kratos
Cory Barlog, the head of creative at Santa Monica Studio, used the panel to announce that a new Kratos-led God of War game is already in development. This subsequent title will be released after God of War Laufey and is directly connected to Faye’s story.
Barlog explained that the Faye-led game serves as a continuation of previous events and is designed to set up and expand what comes next.
He emphasized that while the studio wants to explore different characters and expand the world, there's always going to be Kratos games.
This sentiment was echoed by the studio’s official X/Twitter account, which stated they have many more stories to tell
with Kratos.
Release Window and Market Competition
The February 16, 2027, launch places God of War Laufey in a crowded release window. It will arrive shortly after Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and a few days before Persona 4 Revival. Fable is scheduled for release the following week, and Metro 2039 is also expected in February.

The game will be available as a physical disc version. This is notable because Sony has declared that all games shipping from January 2028 onward will be digital-only. God of War Laufey follows the release of Marvel’s Wolverine, which is slated for September.
Gameplay and Early Reception
A 20-minute gameplay trailer previously aired during a June PlayStation State of Play showcase. The footage depicts Kratos and Atreus burning Faye’s body—referencing events from the 2018 game—before showing Kratos aiding Faye while she is briefly imprisoned.
Early reactions to the gameplay have been mixed. Some fans have praised the visuals and combat, while others have criticized the simplistic gameplay found in the opening sections and the decision to move Kratos away from the center stage.
