The Emmy-nominated actor was found dead on Saturday, August 1, inside his residence in the Bronx, New York, according to USA Today. A neighbor had not heard from him in three days, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. Attermann stated that he represented Pastore for more than 30 years.
From the Bronx and the U.S. Navy to Television Stardom
Born in the Bronx on July 14, 1946, Pastore grew up in New Rochelle, New York. He served in the U.S. Navy, fought in the Vietnam War, and subsequently attended Pace University, where he earned a degree in drama. Before establishing himself as an actor, he worked in the nightclub industry and ultimately entered the profession after befriending Matt Dillon and Kevin Dillon.
Pastore became a prominent face in organized crime projects, appearing in films such as “Goodfellas,” “Carlito’s Way,” Men of Respect,
The Jerky Boys: The Movie,
and “Gotti.” However, his breakout role came in 1999 when he was cast as Salvatore Bonpensiero on HBO’s “The Sopranos.” He portrayed the mob boss Tony Soprano’s best friend, family enforcer, and FBI informant across all six seasons of the series, which ran from 1999 to 2007. Alongside his fellow cast members, he won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2000 and earned another nomination the following year.
