Previously circulated under the internal codename “Pixel Glow,” the feature embeds a programmable colored light directly into the device’s camera bar. It handles visual alerts and integrates with Google Gemini features.
The Pixel HiLight system moves away from traditional screen wakes. Instead, it utilizes distinct color patterns embedded right into the phone’s rear camera housing. Recent strings discovered within the Google Contacts application outline how users will configure custom illumination rules for incoming calls and specific alerts.

Users can access a settings card titled “HiLight.” Here, they configure customized notification colors for favorite callers or expand the feature across all saved entries in their address book.

and Assign a custom glow color for when they call.
Users will also encounter prompts asking whether a dismissal preference should apply to a single entry or the entire contact database. This points to a granular level of notification management.
Hardware implementation places this lighting element cleanly inside the phone’s distinctive camera bar. Rather than relying on software edge-lighting or traditional LED notification blinks tucked into display bezels, Google’s approach leverages the rear housing, making visual alerts visible when the device rests face-down on a flat surface.
A Diverse Palette and Gemini Assistant Feedback

Users can choose among:
