Citylink Routes Server Exhaust into Wrocław District Heating
Polish property developer Citylink has announced plans to redirect waste heat generated by servers at a newly designed data center in Wrocław directly into the city’s municipal district heating network, utilizing server thermal output that would otherwise be dissipated through standard cooling systems. According to company announcements reported during a period of unseasonably high temperatures across Europe, the facility will scale its energy recovery capacity alongside its growing computing load, integrating digital infrastructure directly with local municipal utility grids.
The project pairs Citylink with local power company Kogeneracja. Similar district-heating schemes have previously been deployed in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

Dual-Purpose Infrastructure for the Future
The collaboration with Kogeneracja will provide “valuable experience in designing and operating modern data centers, with a particular focus on infrastructure dedicated to AI nodes,” said Michał Starybrat, development director at Citylink.
Starybrat noted that the partnership highlights how critical digital hubs can serve a dual purpose within urban environments. “The dynamic growth of the artificial intelligence and cloud technology markets generates unprecedented demand for computing power, [and] this collaboration demonstrates how modern digital infrastructure can actively contribute to building the energy ecosystem of the future,” he added.
