The victory brought the White Sox’s record to 60-56, matching their win total from the previous season with 46 games remaining. The game took place as numerous members of the 2005 World Series champions attended the retirement of jersey No. 13 for former manager Ozzie Guillén.

Cleveland Guardians and White Sox Sixth Inning

Cleveland grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run home run by Rhys Hoskins off White Sox starting pitcher Anthony Kay. However, the White Sox responded with a five-run surge in the bottom half of the inning against Guardians starter Gavin Williams and reliever Colin Holderman.

Munetaka Murakami and Tristan Peters Comeback Hits

Munetaka Murakami initiated the comeback by hitting a solo home run down the left-field line off a 99.8 mph sinker, marking his 26th home run of the season and his second in as many games. The White Sox loaded the bases, and Tristan Peters followed with a go-ahead double to left field. Chase Meidroth then singled to right field, stretching the lead to three runs.

Needed that one. I don’t think there’s two ways about it, White Sox manager Will Venable said. It was a great game, especially a comeback there against Gavin Williams, who just continues to be really hard to score on. The guys kept battling.

Anthony Kay and Grant Taylor Pitching Performance

Kay allowed two runs over six innings and struck out four batters, earning his ninth win against five losses. The bullpen preserved the lead using Jordan Hicks, Sean Newcomb, Bryan Hudson, and Grant Taylor, who secured his sixth save of the season despite a seventh-inning threat from Cleveland that included an Angel Genao solo home run.

It's obviously a very important series so I'm really glad that we got to win this one, Murakami said through an interpreter. We were in a bad losing streak right here, so it's good to reset and then come back today with a win.
