In a statement, gardaí confirmed a number of persons were removed from the scene to hospital with serious injuries.

Additional Transport Incidents and Separately Reported Crashes

Separately, a man aged in his 20s is in a serious condition in hospital following a car crash in Co Kerry in the early hours of Sunday morning. The crash involving a bus and a car happened at Aghatubrid, Caherciveen, at about 5am. The young man who was driving the car was seriously injured and has been taken to Cork University Hospital. The driver of the bus, a man aged in his 50s, was uninjured. The road is currently closed and will be examined by Garda technical staff, with diversions in place.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed this crash to come forward. Anyone who was travelling on the N70 at Aghatubrid, between 4:30am and 5:00am and who may have dashcam footage of the incident or surrounding area is asked to make the footage available to investigating Gardaí. Furthermore, two people have died and another has been seriously injured following separate crashes in Carlow and Donegal on Sunday. The crash in Carlow, which involved a car and a motorcycle, happened on R448 at Ballyknockan, Leighlinbridge at around 9.30am this morning. The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was brought by air ambulance to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. The road where the collision happened was closed for a time to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and has since reopened.

On Saturday afternoon, a man in his 20s died following a crash involving a car and 4×4 vehicle, which happened on the R232 at Fincashel, Pettigo at approximately 2:45pm. The driver of the car, a male in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was later taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Letterkenny. A passenger in the car, a woman in her 20s, was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle involved, a man in his 60s, was also brought to hospital for assessment only. The road where the accident took place is closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local traffic diversions have been put in place.
