NORAD Fighter Jets Intercept Aircraft Violating Restricted Airspace Above Trump’s Bedminster Golf Club

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) stated on X that its F-16 jets intercepted two general aviation planes that breached the restricted airspace on August 9, 2026. According to reporting by The Daily Mail, the airspace restrictions were established over the Bedminster area as Trump spent the weekend attending the final rounds of the LIV Golf tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster.

Federal and military aviation authorities routinely enforce temporary flight restrictions, or TFRs, during presidential movements and high-profile public events. Officials noted that the restrictions applied across the New Jersey region throughout the weekend, with the First Air Force Detachment advising pilots in advance to monitor mandatory notices before taking off.

NORAD Intercepts Multiple Aircraft Near Bedminster

According to Fox News, officials confirmed that at least three separate general aviation aircraft triggered airspace alerts on Sunday. NORAD deployed F-16 fighter jets to intercept the first two planes, which were subsequently escorted safely out of the restricted zone. Video footage captured one of the F-16 fighters closing in on a small Cessna-style aircraft near Jefferson Township outside Bedminster.

A third aircraft triggered a separate alert as the President prepared to leave the area. Officials reported that the third plane reestablished radio contact and became compliant before fighter jet intervention became necessary. The third airspace intrusion delayed Trump’s scheduled departure by approximately 13 minutes as Secret Service agents, emergency SUVs, and local law enforcement moved into position near the departure runway around 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

Ahead of the weekend, the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service noted that U.S. Army ground-based air defense assets were also deployed in the region as part of routine, layered defense measures operating under NORAD authorities.

Safety Protocols and Pilot Guidance

Military and aviation officials used the weekend incidents to reiterate standard interception protocols for general aviation pilots who inadvertently wander into restricted airspace. The Department of War’s digital distribution network instructed pilots that upon being intercepted by NORAD aircraft, they must immediately switch their radios to frequency 121.5 or 243.0 and reverse course until receiving further instructions.

Authorities stressed that pilots must thoroughly check Notices to Airmen, or NOTAMs, prior to every flight. “Check NOTAMs before EVERY flight! Stay Safe, Fly Informed,” the First Air Force detachment stated in public advisories leading up to the weekend.

The temporary flight restrictions in Bedminster coincided with the conclusion of the LIV Golf New York tournament, which drew large crowds and notable figures to the President’s New Jersey golf property. Trump was photographed driving golf carts and walking the course alongside professional golfers, including Gary Player, during the weekend’s final rounds.
