Medical technology firm RenovoRx has announced the first commercial clinical use of its RenovoCath device to treat a patient diagnosed with sarcoma, marking a significant expansion of the targeted drug-delivery platform beyond its core focus on pancreatic cancer. According to RenovoRx, the procedure took place at the CARTI Cancer Center Little Rock in Arkansas, where physicians initiated treatment in late June 2026. Sarcoma represents a group of rare cancers that develop in the bones or soft tissues of the body.
By contrast, the RenovoCath device utilizes the company’s patented Trans-Arterial Micro-Perfusion platform to isolate blood flow and deliver chemotherapy directly near the tumor site across the arterial wall.
Medical professionals at CARTI noted that soft-tissue and bone sarcomas frequently present treatment challenges due to their varied anatomical locations and lower responsiveness to standard intravenous regimens. CARTI is concurrently utilizing the RenovoCath device for localized drug delivery in pancreatic cancer care, reflecting a broader adoption trend among specialized oncology centers.
Clinical Rationale and Localized Drug Delivery
According to RenovoRx, interventional radiologist Edgar St. Amour explained that the rationale for applying the device to sarcoma stems from its potential to minimize systemic side effects while concentrating therapeutic agents where they are most needed. “Our experience using RenovoCath to deliver chemotherapy at a local level for pancreatic cancer and its potential to reduce toxicity encouraged us to identify other tumors that could benefit from this innovative technology,” St. Amour stated, adding that clinicians are encouraged by early observations and continue to monitor the patient’s progress.
The device is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for isolating blood flow and delivering fluids—including diagnostic and therapeutic agents—to selected sites in the peripheral vascular system. It is also indicated for temporary vessel occlusion during procedures such as arteriography, preoperative occlusion, and targeted chemotherapeutic drug infusion.
Commercial Milestones and Future Outlook
For RenovoRx, traded on Nasdaq under the ticker RNXT, the first commercial application in sarcoma validates the commercial scalability of its platform beyond locally advanced adenocarcinoma of the pancreas.
