Lauren Boebert’s Son Arrested on Felony Child Sexual Exploitation Charges

Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, was arrested on August 9 in Garfield County, Colorado, on felony charges including sexual exploitation of a child, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. The charges stem from a 2024 investigation into sexually explicit videos involving minors shared on social media, as detailed in a court affidavit.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reported that Tyler Boebert faces three felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two felony counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was released the same day as his arrest after posting a $10,000 bond, according to Axios.

The arrest followed a “felony review process” conducted by the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the sheriff’s office stated. Rep. Lauren Boebert, who is currently seeking reelection in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, told Axios, “I love my son. We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.”

Details of the Sexual Exploitation Charges

A 49-page arrest affidavit describes an investigation that began in 2024 following a Safe2Tell report regarding sexually explicit videos of minors posted to an Instagram account, according to Axios. The affidavit alleges that one specific video, recorded on January 21, 2024, depicts Tyler Boebert and a 17-year-old girl. Boebert was 18 years old at the time of the recording, the document states.

The Denver Post reports that the video is 43 seconds long and depicts the two individuals having sex. According to the affidavit, the girl reported the existence of the video to Silt police shortly after it was created. While Tyler Boebert admitted to police that he was the man in the video, he denied recording it, claiming it was made without his knowledge; however, the girl told investigators that Boebert filmed the video and sent it to her phone.

The charges include specific allegations of intent to “deal in, sell or distribute” sexually exploitative material, as well as charges related to the videotaped material, according to court records cited by Axios.

Broader Social Media Investigation

The investigation into Tyler Boebert is part of a larger probe into the circulation of sexually explicit material through social media. Investigators identified an Instagram group chat containing approximately 124 users that appeared to facilitate the spread of the account hosting the videos, according to Axios.

The Denver Post notes that the affidavit indicates at least six other individuals, including at least four juveniles, may have committed crimes in connection with the material on the Instagram account. One individual interviewed by the Garfield County sheriff’s deputy stated that videos were shared among users to make others jealous.

Tyler Boebert’s Prior Legal History

This arrest adds to a series of legal issues for Tyler Boebert. In 2024, he was arrested in Rifle, Colorado, on 22 felony and misdemeanor charges related to a string of vehicle break-ins, according to the Denver Post. He later pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft.

Court records also show that Boebert was charged earlier this year and again last year with misdemeanor child abuse without injury. According to 9News, those charges stemmed from two separate incidents in which a child Boebert was supervising wandered away from Rep. Lauren Boebert’s home.

Upcoming Court Dates and Legal Proceedings

Tyler Boebert is scheduled for a bond appearance on August 19 in connection with the new exploitation charges, according to Axios. Additionally, he faces sentencing hearings next month in two separate cases located in Weld County and Garfield County.

Joseph Gavaldon, a defense attorney who previously represented Boebert in a separate case, declined to confirm if he is currently representing him in this matter, the Denver Post reports.
