A Belgian choir has claimed two international awards at the prestigious World Choir Games held in Sweden, overcoming fierce global competition to secure top honors in multiple categories. Waelrant, an ensemble hailing from Belgium, triumphed in both the youth choirs up to 25 years old category and the sacred choral music with accompaniment division, as reported by La Libre.
The global festival gathered roughly 160 different ensembles from around the world to compete in various musical disciplines.
“La concurrence était rude, notamment de la part de la Chine, du Canada, mais aussi de l’Europe, et on ne sait jamais vraiment ce que le jury souhaite entendre,” she told VRT NWS, highlighting the immense scope of the international field.
Reflecting on the anxious wait for the results earlier in the week, De Boo added, “Nous étions très satisfaits de notre propre prestation en début de semaine, mais la tension était très forte, d’où cet immense soulagement. J’étais en larmes et, pour l’instant, je ne réalise pas encore.”
