Medical professionals later confirmed the incident was an extreme migraine attack, though Leith expressed gratitude that emergency responders and hospital staff erred on the side of caution given her age and the severity of her symptoms.
Leith detailed the onset of the attack in her September column, titled “Prue’s News,” explaining that she abruptly lost half of her vision. The consulting physician ran through a standard neurological checklist over the phone, asking if Leith could raise her arms, make a fist, experience localized pain, or exhibit facial drooping on one side. Despite Leith answering affirmatively to the physical strength tests and denying pain or drooping, the doctor ordered an ambulance to transport her to a local facility.
Upon arrival at the hospital in Yorkshire, Leith endured a six-hour wait before a physician examined her and ordered a precautionary CT scan. The imaging procedure took place two hours later, followed by another hour-long wait for the diagnostic results. Hospital staff ultimately cleared her to leave at 2 a.m.

Reflecting on the hospital visit, Leith acknowledged that she recognized the root cause of her distress from the outset. “I knew all along that all I had was a migraine,” she wrote. “But since the speech problem is a classic symptom of a stroke, and my extreme old age being a time when mini-strokes are common, everyone was determined to be safe not sorry.”
The television personality is no stranger to discussing the practical realities of advanced age. During an appearance on the daytime chat program Loose Women in April 2025, she offered a candid assessment of growing older. “Age stinks, come on, it takes me 10 minutes to get myself out of bed in the morning. If I don’t do my exercises, I can’t move,” she stated during the broadcast.
Leith also noted that becoming acutely conscious of the finite nature of her life has shifted her perspective, leaving her determined to enjoy her remaining years. The health scare follows a major professional transition for the culinary star, who announced her departure from her long-running role on television in January. After nine years judging contestants on the popular baking competition, she stepped away from the tent, telling viewers and producers that it felt like the right moment to exit.
