Guangzhou Visitors Step into the Roles of Junior Keepers

Visitors in Guangzhou participated in interactive educational programs led by wildlife caretakers. Children and families stepped into the roles of junior keepers, observing daily maintenance routines such as foot care and nail checks under professional supervision. Participating visitors noted that these hands-on sessions offered deep insights into pachyderm anatomy, evolutionary history, and the critical importance of protecting wild habitats.

Stable Social Structures and New Births in Qingyuan

Park professionals oversee stable social structures for more than 30 Asian elephants currently housed across the organization’s facilities. These groups thrive in carefully managed environments that mimic natural social groupings. In late April, an Asian elephant named Yila successfully gave birth to a calf named Wuyi at the Qingyuan facilities. The young calf has since become a visitor favorite, frequently seen exploring outdoor aquatic zones alongside its extended family herd.

Large-Scale Relocation Initiatives for African Herds

Conservation authorities have advanced large-scale relocation and breeding initiatives for African elephants. Following trial operations launched in late July at expansive new adventure zones, visitors have gained access via self-drive and safari truck tours to observe the country’s largest African elephant ex-situ conservation population.

Specialized Care Yield Demographic Growth

The foundation of this population stems from a 2015 rescue operation that brought more than 20 abandoned African calves to secure sanctuaries. Specialized care has yielded significant demographic growth. Current population figures show more than 30 African elephants residing within the expansive habitat zones, bolstered by the birth of 12 subsequent calves.
