Apple is shuttering its retail location at Festival Place in Basingstoke, UK, in November 2026. The move draws the curtain on a 15-year tenure for the shopping center site.
This shutdown forms a single piece of a sprawling, multi-year global retail strategy. The overarching plan encompasses opening brand-new stores, relocating current footprints, and upgrading legacy spaces internationally.
A Simultaneous Reopening in Reading
Even as Basingstoke prepares to lose its high-street presence, regional shoppers will benefit from a simultaneous reopening next door. The Apple location inside the Oracle Shopping Centre in Reading is slated to fling its doors open again in December following a comprehensive redesign.
These concurrent adjustments bring Apple’s total active retail store count to 38 across the United Kingdom. Both the Reading and the doomed Basingstoke stores originally opened their doors to the public in June 2011.
Inside the Redesigned Oracle Layout
The revamped Oracle store will debut the tech giant’s latest architectural layout and customer service spaces. Upgrades include a dedicated experience room built for hands-on product testing, alongside a streamlined Genius Bar.
The location also features an expanded Apple Pick Up area designed for online orders. Dedicated zones for free Today at Apple educational sessions round out the overhaul.
Employment Transitions for Affected Staff
As preparations accelerate for the November closure, Apple has confirmed concrete employment transition plans for the affected retail team. Every single staff member stationed at the Basingstoke site will receive offers to relocate.
Workers can move to the newly redesigned Oracle store in Reading or transfer to other retail locations within the broader UK network.
Hampshire Shoppers Directed Elsewhere
When the Basingstoke shop goes dark, customers throughout Hampshire and surrounding areas will face a new reality. They will be directed toward alternative regional storefronts, official online channels, or authorized service providers.
“We have loved serving the Basingstoke community for the last 15 years and look forward to welcoming customers at nearby Apple Stores,” a company spokesperson stated.
Shoppers can also utilize digital access points including Apple.com and the Apple Store app. Authorized resellers throughout South East England remain available.
A Worldwide Real Estate Overhaul
The UK adjustments run parallel to an ongoing overhaul of Apple’s physical retail footprint worldwide. Over the past 18 months, the corporation executed major redesign projects for prominent flagship locations, including the Regent Street store in London and the Lakeside shopping center branch in Essex.
Additional modernization efforts are actively underway at branches in Birmingham and Southampton. On a global scale, Apple introduced 11 new retail stores and successfully relocated 17 existing sites into updated, modern facility layouts over that same 18-month timeframe.
International additions to the portfolio include Apple Miami WorldCenter and Apple Downtown Detroit. Meanwhile, the Apple Festival Place store in Basingstoke will maintain regular operating hours until its scheduled November 2026 closure, handing the baton to the newly modernized Oracle store in Reading the following month.
