Holyoke Medical Center is expanding its Oncology & Hematology services to provide greater access to high-quality, compassionate cancer care for patients throughout the region, according to announcements from the health system. The strategic growth initiative introduces new office locations and brings two experienced medical specialists to western Massachusetts.
The expansion adds new Oncology & Hematology office locations in Holyoke and East Longmeadow, giving patients more options for receiving specialized medical treatment closer to their homes. Both new facilities are designed to streamline access for individuals managing cancer and blood disorders across the Pioneer Valley.
The health system’s leadership emphasizes that bringing specialized care directly into the community remains a top priority. Spiros Hatiras, President and CEO of Holyoke Medical Center, noted that the health system is excited to expand these vital services and welcome new clinical talent to the staff.
“This expansion allows us to increase access to experienced oncology and hematology providers while offering convenient locations in Holyoke and East Longmeadow,” Hatiras said in a statement. “Most importantly, it strengthens our ability to provide the compassionate, personalized care our patients and their families deserve close to where they live and work.”
New Physicians Join the Medical Staff
To support the broader service footprint, Holyoke Medical Center is adding two seasoned physicians to its medical staff: Masih Farooqui, MD, and Subramony Subramonia Iyer, MD, MPH. Both doctors are scheduled to begin seeing patients in early November.
Dr. Farooqui brings extensive clinical experience to the team, having practiced in the Springfield area for more than 30 years. He completed his undergraduate education, medical school, and initial postgraduate training in Pakistan before moving to western Massachusetts in 1990 to continue his medical training. He holds board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Oncology.
Dr. Iyer brings more than 14 years of practice history in the Springfield area to his new role. He completed his undergraduate studies and medical school in India, followed by graduate studies in public health in the United Kingdom where he earned professional credentials through the Faculty of Public Health, including MFPH and FFPH. After moving to the United States in 2007, he completed an internal medicine residency and a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Medical Oncology and Hematology.
An Expanded Multidisciplinary Care Team
The incoming physicians join an established team of providers at Holyoke Medical Center. Drs. Farooqui and Iyer will work alongside Renuka Dulala, MD, Zubeena Mateen, MD, and Katarzyna Swistak, DNP, as part of the growing Oncology & Hematology department.
This multidisciplinary group collaborates to manage complex diagnoses, coordinate infusion therapies, and deliver comprehensive treatment plans tailored to individual patients.

The establishment of offices in Holyoke and East Longmeadow addresses a persistent regional need for localized specialty care.
