Christy Knowings, a former cast member of Nickelodeon’s hit 1990s sketch comedy series All That, died on Tuesday, August 11, at a Los Angeles-area hospital at the age of 46, according to Deadline. Knowings passed away after being removed from life support following an asthma attack that occurred on Friday, August 7.
The news was shared by her aunt, Tyleah Joseph, in a statement posted to Facebook. According to TMZ, citing family sources, Knowings suffered an asthma attack that left her with brain damage, prompting the family decision to withdraw life support days later.
Knowings is the second former All That cast member to pass away this year, following the death of Kianna Underwood in January during a hit-and-run incident in Brooklyn.
Breakout Years on Nickelodeon’s ‘All That’
After appearing on a failed 1997 Nickelodeon sketch comedy pilot titled And Now This, Knowings joined the network’s All That later that same year.
During her three-season tenure on the show, Knowings performed alongside an ensemble of young talent that included Kel Mitchell, Kenan Thompson, Danny Tamberelli, Nick Cannon, Amanda Bynes, and Josh Server, as reported by Deadline.
Her roles included serving as a dental assistant to Amanda Bynes’ dentist, playing Jessica in the recurring Whateverrr!!! sketches, and newscaster Brenda Stone.
Continuing Career on ‘Sesame Street’ and Beyond
Following All That, Knowings appeared in several episodes of Sesame Street from 2008 to 2011.
On Sesame Street, she worked alongside her real-life twin brother, Chris Knowings. Her brother was a more frequent actor on the series and had appeared in Spike Lee’s 1994 film Crooklyn.
Remembering her, her aunt Tyleah Joseph wrote on Facebook, as cited by Deadline, “My brother Charles’ daughter Chrissy (Christy Knowings) has passed…She was a outstanding actress, comedian, twin sister, an amazing daughter….Rest in power Chrissy.”
