Marvel Studios unveiled the second Avengers: Doomsday
trailer on Friday at D23, showcasing Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom confronting Earth’s mightiest heroes, the Fantastic Four, and an army of Sentinels ahead of the film’s Dec. 18 theatrical release.
The two-minute preview arrived during Disney’s D23 fan convention, introduced by principal cast members Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell. The footage largely mirrors the preview screened last month at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H panel, bringing together multiple corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to face off against the Latverian antagonist.
Sue Storm Confronts Doctor Doom as Sprawling Cast Assembles
The trailer opens with Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman, warning a gathering of Earth’s heroes about the severity of the threat posed by Downey’s character, interspersed with tight shots of the villain’s armor.

The confrontation quickly shifts to a rubble-strewn battlefield where Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards faces Downey directly. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor then steps forward, threatening the villain before attempting a direct strike with his axe, Stormbreaker. Doctor Doom blocks the blow and unleashes a beam of green energy against the Norse god, setting the stage for a much larger confrontation.
X-Men Villains Join the Fray Alongside Returning A-Listers
Following the clash with Thor, Downey’s character summons a collection of Sentinels, the classic mutant-hunting machines associated with the X-Men, delivering a direct line to the assembled heroes.

The film marks Downey’s return to the MCU following the death of his original character in Avengers: Endgame
. He is joined by Chris Evans, who reprises his role as Steve Rogers after stepping away from his superhero duties in the same film. The sprawling roster also incorporates Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, and Simu Liu.
Expanded Lineup Brings Fox Era Characters Into the MCU
In addition to the core Avengers, the film integrates characters from Marvel’s newly expanded roster. The cast features the ensemble from Fantastic Four: First Steps
—Pascal, Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach—alongside the crew from the Thunderbolts
feature, including Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Lewis Pullman, Wyatt Russell, and Hannah John-Kamen.
Significantly, the project features the official MCU introduction of several actors from Fox’s previous X-Men film series. The lineup includes Patrick Stewart as Prof. Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
