The Reytons have secured their second UK Number One album with their self-released fourth studio record, A Love Letter To A Broken Town. The Rotherham band entered the Official Albums Chart at the top spot, replicating the success of 2023’s What’s Rock And Roll?.
Frontman Jonny Yerrell highlighted the achievement, pointing to the lack of mainstream radio support for the album. The record also topped the Official Vinyl Albums Chart.
“This week has been overwhelming, the love and support we have felt from our community has been incredible,” Yerrell said, as reported by NME. “This has to be the first album in history to reach Number One in the Official Charts without a single play on mainstream radio!”
Chart Battle and Album Performance
This outcome comes after a tight race during the middle of the week against FLO, whose second LP Therapy At The Club dropped this week. Positioned at Number Five in the final count, they were joined by fellow Top 40 newcomers Role Model at Number Six, Overmono at Number 12, and Man/Woman/Chainsaw at Number 33. Ahead of the release, A Love Letter To A Broken Town was trailed by The Reytons through the tracks ‘Jukebox’ and ‘Busker’s Paradise’.
Celebrating the result on Instagram, the band dedicated their chart-topper to “the grafters, the dreamers and the everyday people who taught us everything we know”.
Building a DIY Model Out of Necessity
The journey up the charts for The Reytons kicked off when their 2021 first record, ‘Kids Off The Estate’, came just shy of the Top 10. They subsequently claimed the top spot in 2023 with ‘What’s Rock And Roll?’, whereas their third LP, ‘Ballad Of A Bystander’, landed at Number Two. Discussing their ascent to number one with NME back in 2023, Yerrell explained that their self-sufficient strategy was forged through sheer compulsion.
“We’re proud that we’ve done it independently, and it’s just a reminder that you can do it,” he said. “Because we’ve had so many doors shut in our face over the years that we’ve had to literally find different ways around things, make things happen our own way.”
