Remedy Defends Alan Wake 2‘s Epic Games store Exclusivity
Remedy Entertainment has defended its decision to launch Alan Wake 2 as an exclusive title on the Epic Games Store, responding to criticism regarding the potential impact on sales. The Finnish developer confirmed that the game would not have been possible without the financial backing of Epic Games Publishing, asserting that the terms of the agreement were favorable to the studio.
The debate was sparked by comments from Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios (creators of Baldur’s Gate 3), who criticized Epic Games’ exclusivity practices. Douse suggested that Remedy could be losing hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue by limiting Alan wake 2 to a less popular digital storefront then Steam, especially given the studio’s recent financial difficulties.
In an official statement, Remedy directly addressed the criticism: “Ther would be no Alan Wake 2 without Epic Publishing. The publishing deal with Epic was very fair to Remedy. While these complex deals can frequently enough take even a year to reach their conclusion, and may not always be fair to the developer, this one was.And it onyl took months to finalize. Epic Games has been, and is, an excellent partner to us. With Steam or without Steam.”
