Saturday Night live Delivers a Gory, Hilarious Twist on ‘Home Alone’
Saturday Night Live (SNL) recently offered a decidedly darker, yet undeniably funny, take on the beloved holiday classic Home Alone. The sketch, featuring musical guest Ariana Grande, reimagined Kevin McCallisterS booby traps with spectacularly gruesome results, leaving audiences both shocked and amused.
The premise centers around Kevin’s family returning home unexpectedly early. Ashley Padilla portrays a frantic mother rushing to greet her son before the rest of the family arrives, unaware of the perilous welcome awaiting them.
A Grisly Reunion
The sketch quickly departs from the family-friendly tone of the original film. Instead of slapstick mishaps, the traps inflict increasingly horrific injuries.
* Mikey Day,playing Kevin’s dad, immediately encounters a rigged blowtorch in the coat closet, resulting in a fiery head injury.
* A family member slips on scattered toys, suffering a fatal blow to the head against a piano.
* Another activates a nail gun, enduring a face full of projectiles.
* kevin’s sister, portrayed by Sarah Sherman, tumbles down a laundry chute and into a blazing inferno.
The escalating chaos doesn’t stop there. Buzz,Kevin’s older brother, attempts to call for help, only to trigger a chainsaw that tragically amputates his younger brother’s arms (played by Bowen Yang). Blood splatters across the horrified faces of the returning family members.
A Shocking finale
The sketch culminates in a particularly shocking moment. A gruff older man arrives, professing reconciliation with his son, only to have his head cleanly sliced off by the same rogue chainsaw. Grande, as Kevin, then delivers the iconic scream from the original Home Alone, her face smeared with blood, completing the darkly comedic scene.
Beyond the Sketch: Cher’s Holiday Performance and Future Episodes
Saturday’s episode wasn’t solely focused on the Home Alone parody. Cher graced the stage with performances of two festive tracks from her 2023 holiday album, Christmas: “DJ Play a Christmas Song” and “Run Rudolph Run.”
Looking ahead, SNL will return from its holiday break on January 17, 2026, with Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard as host and A$AP Rocky providing the musical entertainment.
