A Difficult Start to the Year
January proved to be a notably heartbreaking month. Jeff Baena,a talented screenwriter and director known for his indie films Life After Beth and Joshy,tragically died by suicide at the age of 47 on January 3rd. He had been separated from actress Aubrey Plaza since September 2024.
Shortly after, on January 16th, the world mourned the loss of David Lynch, the visionary filmmaker behind iconic works like Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet. He passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 78,succumbing to cardiac arrest stemming from complications related to COPD,a condition brought on by years of smoking.
February’s farewell to a Vocal Legend
February brought the loss of Roberta flack, the celebrated singer whose velvety voice captivated audiences for decades. She died on February 24th at the age of 88 from cardiac arrest while en route to a Manhattan hospital. Flack was renowned for timeless hits like “killing Me Softly with His Song” and “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” and bravely battled ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) following her diagnosis in late 2022.
March’s Painful Loss
March 5th saw the passing of a beloved actress,who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her Los Angeles home. She was 61 years old. This tragic loss underscores the importance of mental health awareness and seeking help when needed.
