The OGA, under the Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning (OWRO), initiated the grofvuil collection on Friday, targeting locations identified by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labor (VGA) as hotspots for chikungunya transmission. According to Anwar moenne, the acting director of OGA, the response from residents in Marowijne and Blauwgrond has been significant, indicating a substantial amount of accumulated bulky waste. Starnieuws reported on the initial stages of the operation.
The operation involves collaboration between OWRO, VGA, district commissioners, and the National Coordination Center for disaster Management (NCCR). The NCCR has provided two vehicles to support the removal efforts. Contracted workers and inmates are participating in the physical removal of the waste.A post-project evaluation will be conducted to assess the campaign’s effectiveness.
